Getstrength Speciality Bar Maintenance
By Steve Thompson (Getstrength.com)

For all of you out there who own a GS Speciality Bar or are thinking about purchasing a bar from Getstrength.com this is for you!

Getstrength Speciality Bars

Having being in business since 2001 we have sold many of our bars to customers around the world. Our bars are being used by top International Rugby Sides, Institutes of Sport, AFL teams NRL sides, top Universities and list goes on. Our Getstrength Speciality Bars are all individually crafted and built to last. No mass production here! Our whole team comes from a powerlifting background; Kevin Strachan our Head of Engineering and Design, is a Master powerlifting Champion, with over 20 years plus experience in strength training. Engineering apprentice John, is a New Zealand Junior powerlifting Champion and record holder. Myself Steve Thompson am a past NZ Powerlifting champ and Record holder.

The Speciality Bar Collars are made from 50mm solid mild steel. The maintenance needed on these bars is only a visual concern. The ends if not being used will get a service rust. But the bars will unfortunately outlast your life expectancy! So if a bar that looks pretty is what you are after read on.

If the ends have got a service rust then firstly you need to start using the bar more, it takes a few weeks to create a slight service rusting over the collar.

This is a solid mild steel 50mm bar clean and new.

A penetrative spay (WD-40, CRC 5-56) and rag is required to wipe down the bar every few weeks if not being used or the bar needs to be stored.

If the bar has been left in a damp area for several months then a slightly more abrasive approach is needed.

Penetrative spay (WD-40, CRC 5-56) with a light grade sand paper will be required to remove any service rust that has been obtained during the bars inactivity.

Good luck and train hard, don't let the rust set in, and keep a eye on those bar ends as well!
